new shoe- new balance 790, recommended by Jason, a minimalist trail shoe, very light, low heel. Reviewed here by some local guy named Paul, he seems to know a little about running . I am following Dan Lieberman's advice- stay out of rigid shoes with big built up heels, run on the midfoot, take short rapid strides, land under the hip, not extended. Pretty much same as chi approach Paul suggested. I notice my stride has increased to about 190-200 turnovers by consciously using this technique with no real change in effort or speed on the easy workouts. keeping the mileage low and the surfaces soft for awhile. watching for foot/shin pain. 3.1 miles river trail in 22:18. Geez, I now have more active shoes than Imelda Marcos had in her heyday.
