well, I should have rested my foot but I iced it last night, wrapped it, then wrapped it today and put in 5 easy miles. It felt better than yesterday. I think I must have strained it when I fell skiing last saturday. Well, I have to do probably 3 more ski days before the season ends at Beaver as we have season passes and go every Saturday. I thought about bagging the skiing, but then, I kind of have to go to take my seven year old twins on the lifts and make sure they don't get separated or lost on the runs, so if I have to injure myself skiing at the expense of running, I guess it is worth it in the grander scheme of things.
Need to get my foot looked at anyway, left foot is supinating bad based on wear patterns, consequence of really high rigid arches, a genetic curse from my father's side of the family- might need to look into orthotics as I am very susceptible to sprains and IT band injuries due to no natural foot cushioning.

Hope you can get your foot issues addressed to keep up your training. Have you looked into orthodics?

Jeff, yeah, I want to look into orthotics, do you have any knowledge about them or experience with them? It is a little bewildiering- custom, mail order, then something called "great feet" which I am kind of skeptical of but don't know much. Paul put me onto a sports orthopedist who is a runner so I am going to ask him about them next week. I think it is probably a good idea with the miles I am looking to log here.

Any advice you have on orthotics would be welcome!!

I don't have any personnel experience with them, but I do know several folks who have used various different kinds.

My wife developed PF last year and we got her into some "over the counter" types that seemed to have helped (along with other things). The chiropractor she went to see for it said she shouldn't try them unless she got worse (she is getting better but still has some pain). Her mom had PF bad and when she finally got custom orthodics she improved.

I have a runner friend here in town who is training for Boston and she just developed foot issues and went and got custom orthodic, we are waiting to see if they help.

Sorry I can't help more.

I have heard the full range from yes the help to no they don't, so it is a personal thing to investigate.

thanks for the info, it is helpful. I will look at different options- there appear to be lots.
