just a tuneup for the marathon. I think I finished 5th or 6th in the 10K but am not completely sure since they only record finish times for the top 3 and there was a group pretty far in front of me. The 13 year old kid who ran a 1:16 at the TOU half shredded this course in 34:39. Imagine the state records he is going to break in high school. Steve Anderson took it easy and ran 36 flat with a torn acchilles tendon. I ran maybe the first quarter mile with him before he took off. He looked good in his trademark beach shorts.
There were more hills on this course than I anticipated, this is the first year I have done the 10K, running the 5K last year. It was also fairly cold for this time of year. Mile splits were 5:53 (mostly down) 6:36 (mostly up) 6:14 (not as much up) 6:13, 6:07 (down?) 6:09, 5:41 for 0.14 according to my garmin (my watch said 6.14 miles, whatever). worked out fine, my heart and mind really weren't in this, just trying to get some tempo miles in in preparation for TOU. A nice fun local low key race to get just enough motivation to run some miles faster than marathon pace, hard for me to do if not pushed a little in a race. Maybe I will look for a 5K on next Saturday.

Nice job Rooster. Let's call this 13 year old kid The Prodigy.

SPEEDY!!!! Glad you had a good run whether your heart and mind were in it or not.

Wow, that kids is for sure gonna break some records, he is incredible.

What's incredible about Conner is that his dad has not pushed it at all. He keeps telling him to slow it down and not kill himself, but Conner says he wants to win!

You looked pretty comfortable this morning. As usual it was nice chatting with you, too bad those announcers were so loud, and you were right-you didn't win anything! : )

Impressive about Conner, but in my 15 years of high school coaching in two states I would say the majority of super 12 and 13 year olds never even end up running in high school. Not all, but definitely most.

Here's hoping Conner is different.

Oh yeah.. great race.

Have you thought about doing the Fabulous Alta Peruvian Downhill Dash and Bar-B-Q Bash next weekend? Screamin' downhill 8k with a great party after. Also, they rent rooms at the Peruvian for $35 for runners who want to stay over Saturday night.

Your 5k split will be your 5k pr - guaranteed.

Rob, thats interesting.. do you think is it because they burnout and lose interest, or something else? I hope Conner sticks with it.

the alta peruvian looks tempting but I think I will save my quads for TOU! maybe next year though, I would like to do it.

and thanks for the kind comments. good to run with you Steve (for a few hundred yards anyway), maybe I will see you in 12 days if you can get that achilles to cooperate.

Great job on the race. Looks like you're going to have a great TOU.
