decided to give myself another yearly dose of painful blisters with 6 miles of downhill terror. didn't disappoint as I got some good ones. Maybe I shouldn't run this in worn out racing flats. or run it at all...

met Steve P at Liberty park and he kindly drove me and my friend Mark to the start.  warmed up a little. took off fast and probably ran too fast for the first two miles, then pretty strong for 3 miles, then got worn out. but I destroyed my old PR for this course, my watch time was 35:40, so am happy with that, even with my weak finish, though it will take weeks to recover from some very big and painful blisters on the balls of my feet. My feet felt like they were literally on fire for the first 1.5 miles of this obscene downhill. garmin splits were 5:19, 5:17, 5:50, 5:49, 5:45, 6:18, and 6:16 for 0.2. wish I could have held a stronger pace the last mile. oh well.

I took off right after the race to go to the parade with the family.

happy pioneers day!

Scott,

What can I say, that was impressive. I can't remember what place but I know you were an age division winner 2nd or 3rd. Congrats, you are looking strong for the fall. Will you be doing a marathon?

Nice race Scott. I know what you mean about that last mile. I have a hard time maintaining focus. It's like I just don't care. I thought about walking down 9th South. Good thing I didn't - you were in hot pursuit!

nice race scott. hope those blisters heal up quickly.

Great job Rooster! Way to "destroy" your old course PR.

From Paul on Sun, Jul 25, 2010 at 17:38:17 from 174.27.193.158

Great job on the PR. Blisters are worth it sometimes.

thanks guys. Matt- I thought about doing TOU this fall but then wimped out. just not in the mood for the training and beating of a marathon right now. Rob, I'm not sure I would call it "hot pursuit" but thanks for the compliment! that's two in a row I have been a (distant) second to you in the 45-49 age group (SLC half and now this). My new strategy is just to jump to the 50-55 age group as fast as I can! Never thought I would look forward to turning 50 but now I see the perks!!

Great job, Scott! You left me in the dust from the beginning.

Nice job Scott.

Nice job! Way to smash your goal! 5:19 and 5:17 for the first to miles. That was smokin even with the downhill. Take your time with the age group jump. I just barely got away from you.
